Toy Story 5 Trailer Pits The Beloved Duo Versus a Tablet Computer
It has been 30 anniversary after the first Toy Story movie debuted, launching Pixar as a major animation studio and introducing viewers to beloved characters like the cowboy doll (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now household names.
In 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed recently, providing a brief look into the storyline but leaving fans curious how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Frightens the Toys
In the teaser reveals Bonnie — who received the toy collection when he grew up — getting a latest toy, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She acquires her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.
Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the toys seem to view it as a danger coming to replace them, which it probably is.
Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
One thing the trailer avoids is what Woody is returned with his friends in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (the actress), journeying with a carnival and assisting prize toys locate loving owners.
Surely, the filmmakers will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him appear in the familiar setting unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, however. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have come back with him. And where is Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?
Connections from the Last Installment
Fortunately, some elements are carrying over from the earlier movie. The final act Woody did before departing for his fresh path was pass his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (the voice actor), leaving her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser displays the badge attached to her outfit.
Hopefully she is still the driving force among the toys.
Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
